St. Andrews Baptist Church hosts NCFCA Qualifying Speech & Debate Tournament. Five hundred Volunteers Needed as Judges.

Columbia, SC January 22, 2009 – St. Andrews Baptist Church in Columbia, South Carolina, has agreed to host the second Region 8 qualifying tournament of the 2009 National Christian Forensics and Communications Association (NCFCA) competitive season. On Thursday, February 19th, two hundred homeschooled students and their families will arrive from North and South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida for three days of competition. Students will compete in ten speech events and two styles of debate. Those who qualify will proceed to the NCFCA Regional Invitational in April, where they will compete for an invitation to the NCFCA National Championship in June.

Community Judges represent a key ingredient for the successful implementation of this event. In addition to donations from local business and churches, our greatest need is to recruit over 500 community volunteers to judge the events. Judges will receive training, have access to talented students, watch stimulating presentations, and enjoy tasty refreshments. We urge people in the Columbia area to consider joining us during this three-day event. No debate experience is needed to be a community judge.

The Event: Over 200 homeschooled high school and middle school students 12-18 years old competing in 12 different Speech & Debate events

The Need: 500 Community judges, of all backgrounds and experience. Training provided for all events (Must be at least 19 years old)

The Commitment: 3 hours of your time: Thursday, Friday or Saturday,
